Nice surprise this evening on an empty band.
« on: May 15, 2014, 21:42:06 UTC »
This evening at around 2100z I thought I'd give 15m a try. The band was very quiet with next to no signals present but I chanced a CQ and much to my surprise was called by club member Oleg UR5FA/MM from near BV3. He was a solid 539 and peaked at 559. Five Watts KX3 to FT817!

Just goes to show that a quiet band doesn't mean there's no propagation!!!

Hi! Dave,

Congratulations, yes 15 is another good one, and I have often some surprises from time to time.

I worked Oleg a couple of time on 20 meters some years ago.

On this band, (15) I use a vertical  hooked up to my chain link fence, as a counterpoise, and it works really well. Last week, my best distance was a VU2 @ 13,000 Km and another new one in the bag.-

15 & 10 meters are the bands  I watch  regularly for ASIA & Oceania, as those two continents are the most difficult for me to catch new ones. I still need many countries in that part of the world.

72 Dave and keep on watching, you will never know!!

72, Michel  didit..
