Thanks Nicola. Very interesting and educational.

For anyone who hasn't come across it, there is a superb book , "The Art and Skill of Radio-Telegraphy", by William G. Pierpont N0HFF. It has just been republished in its 5th edition.

The third edition (the one I have) is available in pdf format here (http://www.pcpractice.com/CW/The%20Art%20&%20Skill%20of%20Radio%20Telegraphy%20-%203rd%20edition.pdf).

Oh that was interesting and a bit nostalgic Michel.
I had the plastic based ESL key with the code printed on it. I got it when I was a cadet in the signals section in the Combined Cadet Force at school in late late 1950s/early 1960s.
I also had the "Buzzer Practice" by Merit. I picked it up at a jumble sale about 25 years ago, it was powered by a 4.5 Volt bell battery. Sold it on Ebay about 8 years ago  :(
